What can be claimed?

Laser eye treatments & surgery conducted anywhere in the EU can be claimed as an income deduction against your tax paid in Ireland.

 

How much can be claimed?

From 2009 the full cost of the surgery can be relieved at 20%.  Before 2009, the treatment was available for relief at your higher rate (41% to 42% depending on the year, with refunds still available back to 2005).

It should be noted here that costs of eye glasses and contact lenses are not available for tax relief

Laser Eye Treatment Top Tax Tips

Laser eye treatment completed before 31st December 2008 is available for tax relief at up to 42%.  From the 1st January 2009 Tax Relief is available of up to 20% only

Remember - No limits apply to the cost of the surgery that can be relieved.
